Does Keto Work?

Does keto work? And is that even the point?
What we always do is chasing some kind of magic formula a hack whether it is the keto diet or eating only celery like in the 90s or sardines...
...does it give results? well sure!
You can easily lose 5 kilos in a week with with only the keto diet. Once we return the week after we get all those kilos back again.
And the thing is: it's not so much about the diet but about us.
I haven't changed in a week
And that change going from however we're eating right now to "I am a person who eats healthy I am an athlete" it takes way more time than just a week.
I would say the definition of an athlete is somebody who is professional with their body so that would be taking care of the input and then matching that input with a desired output
If you put in aerobic intervals then you get aerobic capacity out
If you put in enough fuel to to sustain that then your body will start looking like an athlete
So what I'm saying is that you need to shift what is normal inside the body like a change in identity architecture. it's not just changing the food it's about changing who you think that you are.
One of the things we do in Crossfit is call everybody an athlete
You don't have to compete in order to be an athlete; just think consider it being pro on your own body.
There's this Greek guy (Hippocrates) says that "food should be your medicine and medicine should be your food" as in you're controlling what you're putting in and that partly dictates what you're getting out does that make sense.
Anyway if we're talking identity architecture that's three parts
1) We have goals which means which direction do we want to go in
do we want to add more strength
do we want to work on um aerobic capacity or is it
getting rid of unwanted kilos
2) The second part would be about propaganda
you need to tell yourself that I am an athlete
I am a professional when it comes to my body
an athlete is a good identity to to assume compared to
a skinny person for example
a skinny person will do anything just to lose weight
an athlete however needs to fuel their body in order to sustain
their sport
but then funnily enough it's not enough just to have the affirmations
3) what you also need to do is have evidence. If you're telling yourself I am an athlete and you've never done sports before then obviously that will feel like a lie. Your body will revolt against it.
That evidence comes from forcing yourself to make a change and then recording small victories over time. That's why we have these diplomas at the gym where doing micro victories that accumulate evidence that you are who you say you are or who we say you are.
Obviously it's better if you say that you are an athlete rather than us, but we gotta start from somewhere right?
And yeah that takes time it doesn't happen over a week
What you wanna do is start with really really small changes and then let accumulate over
the rest of your life!
And make sure that the identity that you're building is something that is healthy and useful and not just anchored in external validation
And if we're talking purely biologically then I would say it's probably way better to start with looking at controlling your blood sugar normally in a sustainable way as in not going for the easy fix the quick hack but rather finding a normal way of eating carbohydrates
because most likely that's the kind of life you will encounter in the real world so to speak.
Instead of doing a hack start with small changes first and at the same time work on your identity architecture in order to make it more permanent.
There's more about environment but that'll have to wait until tomorrow
